later nations guide

Allon

10 Duchies: Londell, the Crown Duchy in the center; Wondervale, Hissell, and Vivacar to the west; Formelon, Nordelon, and Rollon to the north; and Gaellor, Hollingael, and Sungael to the east. Duchies are divided in turn into counties, baronies, or other feudal administrative titles. Colonial possessions in western Limellia were recently returned to the crown of Limellia when King Ademar I of Allon and Emperor Sigeric of Eusdria were defeated decisively by King Lothair II. Ademar is preparing for civil war from his angry barons.

King: Ademar de Mowbray-Angelon (he takes the Mowbray name as tradition states even though he is of the House of Angelon on his father’s side, a family of Norden aristocrats). Ht: 6’2” Wt: 210 Hair: Reddish blond. Eyes: Blue.

Mormelar

-Type: 5 independent but allied kingdoms. These are feudal monarchies known as Casparon, Adhelon, Ilion, Orelin, and Veredune. There is a parliamentary system which serves to align the interests of the four crowns. The kings and their courts as well as the more important nobility are recognized in this body. The kingdom was recently greatly expanded thanks to the victory at Turine in 1015 over the Sultanate of el-Faris. The Ferisids were driven from Almaren and only a few Kalimite strongholds even remain in Mormelar. With the victory has come a new wave of hostility and xenophobia

Kings: Hermelande II has just taken power in Casparon (his mother Leocadia stepped down in favor of her son). Arnulfe V remains the king of Adhelon. In Ilion, Hugo I has taken command since his father Conrade II was killed by Romain de Imaury’s forces in Theleus in 1015 (Conrade had invaded because Romain had conquered the county and expelled his brother and vassal). Eligion IV remains the strong and prudent king of Orelin. Medarde II has taken the crown of Veredune (his father, the popular and successful Romelion I, was slain in 1014 leading a drakeslaying expedition) but faces continual challenges to his authority from his brother and sisters.

Limellia

Duchies: Velondel, Marendel, Sionon, Ameuria, Cyrell (the one province still possessed by Allonian nobility), Talegan, Theleus, Averuan, Rhenardey.

King: Lothair II Carnot

merp party and notes

TA 1607 Party Calenardhon

* means founding member

The Party

Aldorn Vaszerel *

Race: Folyavuldok

Gender: M

Age: 24

Class: Bard

Level: 3

Appearance: 5’10”, 165 lbs, black hair, grayish-green eyes, tawny skin

Notes: Aldorn is a charming young man from Dorwinion, which his people call Folyavuld. A handsome youth, he is young, enthusiastic and a dedicated skirt-chaser. Aldorn was born in Szrel-Kain to a middle-class family. However, the members of the Destal Collegium were so impressed by the young man’s memory and rhetorical skills that they gave him a scholarship to study with them. He performed well there but was constantly distracted by other pursuits which eventually caused him to be expelled. Optimistic and adventurous, Aldorn decided to leave his home for the West and gain some firsthand experience about the cultures he had thus far studied. He delights in his newfound ability to meet new people, learn new things, impress and entertain people and of course engage in trysts with beautiful women.

Armor: Cuir-boilli cuirass, leggings and bracers.

Weapons: Fine iron longsword

Andrahil Estelion *

Race: Dunadan

Gender: M

Age: 45

Class: Ranger

Level: 10

Appearance: 6’9”, 255 lbs, black hair and facial stubble, midnight-blue eyes, tanned skin

Notes: Andrahil is a sullen and guarded Dunadan from the North. He does not volunteer anything of his origins to his group members, but he is from a respected House of Arnor. His family is actually related to the King’s (third cousins). Andrahil’s motives are clouded in mystery, but it is clear from his actions that he is willing to work against the forces of evil. Andrahil has a sarcastic and somewhat bitter demeanor, and he is quick to express his distaste towards the world to as many people as offend him (which are many). Andrahil is experienced, intelligent and insightful, however, and that makes him an asset to the group.

Armor: Studded leather cuirass and greaves, with a shirt of mithril links underneath.

Weapons: Fine steel Morningstar, composite short bow, 3 throwing knives, quiver of 20 arrows.

Baldôr

Race: Mountain Dwarf

Gender: M

Age: 55

Class: Warrior

Level: 10

Appearance: 4’10”, 190 lbs, black hair and beard, stone-grey eyes, lightly tanned skin

Notes: This young Dwarf was sent to live with Threlin’s Folk, exiled from his home in the Misty Mountains because he was acting rashly and violently. These symptoms began when his father, Balrik, left their clan-holding to search for new veins of truesilver in the northern Misty Mountains. Balrik was never seen again. Baldor henceforth swore to follow and find his father instead of tend to the estate which he was honor-bound to by Dwarvish custom, and when his kin counseled him not to be rash, he bitterly cursed and berated them. They subsequently exiled him and sent him to the Uldona Spine to cool down for a few decades before they will consider having him back. Baldor is rash and hot-tempered to a greater degree than most dwarves, and he has sworn to find the scar-faced man named Druce whom his father first left with.

Joins: Uldona Spine.

Prebhen the Blue *

Race: Eriadoran

Gender: M

Age: 73

Class: Mage/Alchemist

Level: 12

Appearance: 6’0”, 160 lbs, white hair and long beard, blue eyes

Notes: Hailing from Eriador, Prebhen was a bourgeois legal councilor in Tharbad for most of his life. He decided later in life that he had the intellect and willpower to become a mage. He was partially correct: though he is not inept, his experiments often go awry. Prebhen is old, feeble, and does not see very well, and it rarely crosses his mind that perhaps he chose a new career a bit too late. Nevertheless, he is an avid experimenter and constantly searches for new reagents for his meddling. The group sees him as being useful, but perhaps a bit senile.

Armor: None save his ring of defense.

Weapons: Gnarled yew staff with amethyst crown (focus/spell net), ithilnaur dagger, greek fire-bombs, whatever alchemical poison, projectile or other concoction he has this week.

Fëalókë the Dark *

Race: Noldo Elf

Gender: M

Age: Unknown

Class: Battlemage

Level: 15

Appearance: 6’8”, 230 lbs, black hair, indigo eyes shot through with silver shards.

Notes: This Elf is from the noblest kindred of the Firstborn. Hailing from Eregion, he is a Battlemage, a fearsome mix of scholar and soldier. He is impetuous, demanding and fiery-spirited (and said to be of the House of Feanor). Fealoke has a haughty and arrogant manner around Men, which would work against him but for his commanding personal aura. He also has a tremendous memory and range of skills, a keen mind for strategy, a ferocious combat ability, and a dazzling array of spells. The other members of the group rightfully respect and fear this Noldo and are glad to have him on their side.

Armor: Elven Banded Mail.

Weapons: Icetongue, slicer boomerang, tangle-whip.

Bairagläth

Race: Berninga

Gender: M

Age: 34

Class: Barbarian

Level: 8

Appearance: 6’7”, 290 lbs, golden-blond hair, blue eyes, light ruddy skin

Notes: This rugged man of the Anduin Vales sees himself as a potential hero of some renown. He believes, and rightly so, that he represents the fierce and deadly warrior elite of his tribe. When asked of his origins, he claims to be a farmer of the Nenedain peoples. He does not say that he is, in fact, a Berninga (bear-cultist), and takes great pains to keep his Werebear identity a secret (as do many of these people). Winning fame and fortune through adventure is his first order of business, and in time he would also like to find a wife and settle down once again upon his farmlands. He is practical, mostly honest, and amicable and becomes quite animated in the proper social setting.

Joins: Fola Salenin (River Running), later in Campaign I

Lornath *

Race: Sinda Elf

Gender: M

Age: 27

Class: Scout

Level: 5

Appearance: 6’4”, 180 lbs, light blond hair, pale blue eyes, light skin

Notes: Lornath is very young by Elf standards, and his exuberance and youthful spirit are clear. Hailing from Mirkwood, he comes across as very naïve and full of ridiculous ideas. If he actually lives long enough to grow up, he might become an excellent scout. He has taken a surprising liking to the misanthropic Gavrad, perhaps because of that man’s reverence for nature and dislike of human despoilment. Most of the group find the ever-cheery Lornath to be a welcome source of levity, though few would admit so.

Update: Nearly killed in the ship-switching exercise in a town harbor. He was shot by a poisoned arrow but resisted the poison.

Gavrad Ruadh *

Race: Dunlending

Gender: M

Age: 32

Class: Animist

Level: 8

Appearance: 5’11”, 180 lbs, dark brown hair, brown eyes, very tan skin

Notes: He is despised by most of his people, save those who belong to his order (the Order of Arriale). He is aloof and inscrutable like most animists, but also has a sharp distaste for humankind, whom he regards as unkind despoilers. His brooding, sour demeanor has made him an outcast among his people and a suspect among other peoples of the West. His magical skills and herb-lore, among other things, make him an asset to the group despite his generally bad-natured conduct. He has a pet lynx called Kyrna.

Amyas Ryrikson *

Race: Estarave

Gender: M

Age: 27

Class: Crusader

Level: 5

Appearance: 6’2”, 225 lbs, russet brown hair and beard, hazel eyes, light skin

Notes: Amyas hails from the southern Anduin Vales, born into a family of the Westronized Northmen called the Estarave. He is not a secular Westerner, like most of the Dunedain, but instead pines for a unified church dedicated to Eru and the Valar. Amyas has a strong zeal for the Faith which has led him to become a Crusader of his religion. He admires Fealoke for his similar desire to end evil, and is undeterred by that Elf’s haughty manner. He has a stony demeanor and a glint in his eye, and these things, coupled with his single-minded sense of purpose, tend to make other people uncomfortable around him. Amyas chastises those without faith or discipline and can seem like quite a killjoy, but no one in the group denies that he is an important member with combat and spell ability.

Race: Half-Elf

Gender: F

Age: 45 (apparent age 20)

Class: Mentalist

Jokor Alufson *

Race: Eriedain

Gender: M

Age: 35

Class: Warrior

Level: 7

Appearance: 6’4”, 280 lbs, graying brown hair and beard, brown eyes

Notes: Jokor is a huge man with the strength of a wild bull. He is not a bright or subtle individual; he is a warrior, plain and simple. His massive power and toughness make him the out-front man in most combat situations. When he is not engaged in adventure, he likes to drink, brawl and boast. He travels with a large dog, his pet, who serves to keep him in line. To be sure, Jokor is more a man of action than of speech, and is superstitious and untrusting.

Cause of Death: throat cut in gang attack by corrupt Dunlostir agents

NPCs

Arsael, the mysterious old priest

Race: Dunadan

Gender: M

Age: very old (magically-extended)

Class: Priest

Level: 30

Daroher, a Lieutenant of the Dunlostir Guard

Race: Lesser Dunadan

Gender: M

Age: 34

Class: Guardsman

Level: 15

Appearance: 6’6”, 250 lbs, dark brown hair and mustache, green eyes

-Daroher suspects that Serehil and Nethlas are into the shady going-on around Dunlostir, but he cannot prove it and has never spoken publicly about it because he doesn’t want to risk his family or friends. He is more a source of information and covert aid than an active ally of the group.

Galaborn

Race: Dunadan

Gender: M

Age: 63

Class: Knight

Level: 25

Appearance: 6’5”, 270 lbs, light brown hair and trim beard, blue eyes

-Galaborn acts as though he is merely a knight enjoying a country retirement, but he actually is an operative in the Imperial Intelligence Bureau (the King’s personal spy network). He is the Head Spy of Calenardhon and controls a cell of 8 other active agents as well as an array of informants. His base of operations is Calmirie, the safest part of Calenardhon, where he keeps his office in a modest one-story home. Most of the other Calenardhon operatives have offices and residences on the same street in Calmirie’s modest east side. He also has a ranch in the hills with five loyal servants outside of the city where he poses as a retiree. When he is not active in affairs of state, he lays low and smokes or snorts Moon Sugar.

Age: 38

Class: Duellist

Level: 10

Gender: M

Age: 48

Class: Guardsman

Level: 20

Appearance: 6’9”, 220 lbs, raven-black hair, hazel eyes

-Serehil is an Umbarean spy. He was angry at first when he was transferred to Calenardhon (admittedly an Imperial frontier-land) until he realized that some of the best business opportunities lay with the corrupt Dunedain of that province. He has found that Nethlas and company are descendants of Castamir’s allies and have the same villainous tendencies that so many from his native Umbar prize.

Nethlas, Governor of Dunlostir

Race: Dunadan

Gender: M

Age: 61

Class: Knight

Level: 25

Appearance: 6’2”, 180 lbs, dark brown hair, brown eyes

-Nethlas is the uncle of the later Calenardhon villain Alandur III. Nethlas is small and thin for a Dunadan but good-looking and vain. He is subtle-minded, dangerous and pragmatic. He is also as fearsome a swordsman and commander as he is an intellectual and sophist. After Dalion’s death, he decided to let the issue ride, as the group had discovered no leads other than directly to Dalion.

-His title in administration is officially Lord-Governor (thanks to his noble blood) of Dunlostir and has been named Count of the Dunlostir Prairies. His old agricultural base, once extensive, has now dwindled thanks to the plague, and the local farmers claim that he has abdicated his duty to patrol the far townships which has resulted in deaths due to Orc raids and worse. Since the erosion of his old tax base he has increasingly turned to smuggling and slavery and assumed the central Steel Ring position in northern Gondor. When not in the Lord-Governor’s Mansion, he spends time at a lavish villa and cattle ranch upon one of the prairie lakes about 8 miles from Dunlostir (his compound guarded by loyal crooks and foreign mercenaries at all times). He has a wife, Narine (age 46), and two children, Carine (f, age 25), and Alandur (m, age 21).

Appearance: 6’4”, 180 lbs, straw-blond hair and thin mustache, brown eyes

-After his run-in with the group, he is let free but warned by Fealoke that if he ever crosses their path again, he is a dead man. Fealoke’s guess was correct; this man is an agent of the Steel Ring and was sent to eliminate some of the group members.

Note on Calenardhon: the Great Plague wiped out the populations of most of the smaller villages in this region, lending to the isolated city-state atmosphere.

Week 1: Scouring the Misty Mountains

Day 1-Tuesday-Angrenost

-Party came together as Andrahil, Fealoke, Gavrad, Amyas, Prebhen, Lornath, Jokor, and Aldorn. Preparations are made to go into the Misty Mountains at the urging of Prebhen.

Day 2-Wednesday-Into the Mountains

-Camped overnight, drove off a pack of vicious wolves toward nightfall.

Day 3-Thursday-Higher into the Mountains

-Saw a caravan of merchants at a distance. The group crossed the river, and camped at the base of a tunnel.

Day 4-Friday-Orc Hold

-The group investigated an Altar of Desvik (a Demon). Ambushed an Orc patrol and slew 4 Orcs. Later, at the hold, fought a squad of Orcs and killed all 11 of them. Found some gems, a scroll of organ repair, and a steel great-maul (which Jokor took).

Day 5-Saturday-Higher into the Mountains

-The group foraged for herbs and found several types. They encountered a 25’ tall statue of a warrior from some time ago. After passing a cabin, they were assaulted by Orcs and killed all 8 of them.

Day 6-Sunday-To Angrenost

-Due to food shortages and disappointing hunting opportunities, the group turns back. They camped overnight at the Orc Hold.

Week 2: Return to Angrenost

Day 7-Monday-To Angrenost

-The group continued back to Angrenost. Along the way they were ambushed by a bloodthirsty group of bandits, all 7 of whom were killed. Jokor sustained a considerable wound. The group found troll tracks and continued on down.

Day 8-12/Tue-Sat/Angrenost

-Rested at the garrison, put Jokor to bed for convalescence. On Wednesday, the group sold the hoak-foer herbs they found to an herbalist, finally agreeing on a price of 385 gp, which was enough to outfit the group with horses.

Week 3: Journey to Dunlostir

Day 13/Sun/Angrenost

-Final day of convalescence for Jokor. The group makes preparations to hunt the trolls they saw evidence of earlier.

Day 14/Mon/Troll-Hunting

-The group found the trolls with the aid of Andrahil and Lornath. Found only three at the hold, and slew them. The treasure found included a sapphire, a staff of channeling aiding, and some rich clothing. The group freed a Dunnish peasant by the name of Aonghas in the ruin site.

Day 15/Tue/To Angrenost

-The group met a patrol from the city who said all was well. They continued onward but didn’t reach the city before nightfall.

Day 16/Wed/Angrenost

-The group proudly displayed the troll-heads to the town guard. The Captain of the Guard, Bregion, was impressed at the small group’s prowess. He introduced the group to Hir Faelven.

Day 17/Thur/Angrenost

-Hir Faelven commissions the group to find the missing Aonghas, who is a debtor. He explains that if Aonghas will get together with the city’s musicians to write a symphony, he will forgive Aonghas’s debt. While at Prebhen’s house, the dottering mage detonates a failed brew which creates a noxious stink. Later that evening, the group finds Aonghas at the Wild Boar Inn. A drunken bravo insults and then attacks the group, and is subsequently killed by Jokor. The city guard acquits him of murder on the spot.

Day 18/Fri/To Dunlostir

-A merchant named Deveth asks the group to escort him and his group to Dunlostir. The group agrees and they are off. They met a group of Halflings.

Day 19/Sat/To Dunlostir

-Climbed the plateau. The group was attacked by a patrol of Orcs. Deveth turns out to defend himself ably. 11 Orcs in total were slain.

Week 4: Barrow of the Ancient Kings

Day 20/Mon/To Dunlostir

-Uneventful travel. The group met a ghost during the night.

Day 21/Tue/Dunlostir

-Deveth thanks the group for getting him to the next city safely, and pays the remainder of their fee. Aldorn made a pass at a pretty red-headed girl but was unable to get lucky. Fealoke talked to Daroher, a lieutenant of the guard, who told him about the altar at the barrow.

Day 22/Wed/To the Barrow

-A hungry ogre ambushes the group, underestimating their skill. He is killed for his trouble.

Day 23/Thur/The Barrow

-Met the guardians of the barrow, entered and explored. A vicious wraith attacks the group, but is turned and later destroyed. They found an ithilnaur dagger, a channeling aiding brooch, and a signet ring. Later, a docile ghost approaches the group and confers with them. They learn that the wraith is the remnant of the king’s spirit and will return until the body (focus) and the altar (anchor) are destroyed.

Day 24/Fri/The Barrow

-The group determined the nature of Gavrad’s ogum-stones, cremated the king, and defaced the evil altar. They found a stock of 100 ancient silver coins. They conferred with the ghost again and left.

Day 25/Sat/Dunlostir

-Jokor challenges the patrons of the Greenway Tavern to an arm-wrestling tournament.

Day 26/Sun/Dunlostir

-Jokor loses the arm-wrestling contest to a barrel-chested Rhevain veteran and smith called Thorley Silverbeard. Silverbeard beats the Captain of the Guard, Serehil, by a hair to win the city-wide contest. According to Daroher, there is an Orc-Hold north of town.

Week 5: Against the Orcs of the Misty Mountains

Day 27/Mon/To Orc-Hold

-The group travels north toward the hold.

Day 28/Tue/To Orc-Hold

-The group comes across a destroyed farming community of four homes. A squad of ten orcs led by a vicious half-orc named Rurg attack. The orcs are killed but Rurg escapes in the heat of battle. Jokor finds and takes a suit of double mail on the farm. The group camps on the river bank, keeping watch in shifts.

Day 29/Wed/To Orc-Hold

-Five goblins berserkers ride into the farmstead on wargs. A vicious fight ensues, in which a warg kills Jokor’s dog. A sinister shade helm is found and destroyed. In the afternoon, another 6 orcs mob into the farmstead and are also killed. The group begins to worry.

Day 30/Thur/To Orc-Hold

-Foraged for herbs while traveling north again. Saw great eagle at night.

Day 31/Fri/Orc-Hold

-Killed 9 orcs, 5 goblin berserkers and 4 wargs. Rurg is found here, but escapes again. The group finds two fine iron longswords.

Day 32/Sat/Orc-Hold

-Found an Icetongue (longsword of cold), and a Helm of Domination. Destroyed the helm and started back south.

Day 33/Sun/Dunlostir

-Sold extra goods. Aldorn told the tale of the adventures so far at the Greenway Tavern to a good reaction and accompanied by special effects from Prebhen.

Week 6: Trouble in Calenardhon

Day 34/Sun/Dunlostir

-A woman goes mad on the streets of Dunlostir and raves about her children being kidnapped by the city guard. The guards promptly arrest her. The group decides to investigate. At Greenway Tavern, the group toasts their glorious success in previous affairs.

Day 35/Mon/Dunlostir

-Galaborn, a retired Knight Errant of Gondor, tells the group stories of the Steel Ring and swears them to secrecy. The group prowls about town but can find nothing suspicious.

Day 36/Tue/Dunlostir

-In the shanties around the edge of the city, the group finds a series of not-so-hospitable dives. In the current state of poverty, they are out in the open about criminal activities in the slums. After paying off a Dunnish beggar, the unsavory alcoholic tells them that he saw one of the members of the city watch talking with four shady individuals along the waterfront one evening.

Day 37/Wed/Dunlostir

-The group inquires into the activities of Dalion, a corrupt member of the City Guard. Their inquiries are met unkindly by most people who are questioned. The party reasons that this is out of fear of reprisal. At night, the group notices a person spying on them but is unable to catch the cowled individual.

Day 38/Thur/Dunlostir

-The group finds out that Dalion has been gone since Tuesday on hunting sojourn. He will not be back tonight. Daroher warns the group that he will allow them to investigate the goings-on, but will not be able to protect them from retaliation. The group waits until nightfall and infiltrates the house of Lieutenant Dalion. After dispatching six attack dogs, seven guardsmen, and a Flesh Golem, the group confronts the drugged-up chief household guard. He tells the group that the slave ring is probably extensive and he doesn’t know who is behind the Steel Ring. After threatening the group, the chief thug is promptly killed. Sinister journal and logs found, along with some illicit money and a stash of Skuma.

Day 39/Fri/To Onodrith

-Disappointed at their lack of tangible evidence and afraid of possible retaliation, the group slips town before dawn and travels to a relatively secluded cave some ways from town and rests the day. Ambushed Sagathig band at night, and killed four of the shifty easterners.

Day 40/Sat/To Onodrith

-Ambush at the hilltop; 12 corrupt watchmen jump the group. The fight is fierce and without quarter. Jokor is fatally wounded, along with six of the watchmen. Two more are wounded severely and the last four escape.

Week 7: Decisions, Decisions

Day 41/Sun/To Onodrith

-The group, well off the main road, reflects upon the situation and tries to come to a decision about what to do. They decide that the danger to them is too great to return to Angrenost and report the corrupt conduct to Faelven, but resolve to do it later. They decide to press on to Onodrith and seek the protection of the Governor there.

Day 42/Mon/To Onodrith

-Riding hastily, the group doesn’t tarry. Saw movements of torch-wielding men in the distance.

Day 43/Tue/To Onodrith

-Continued to ride, came across a party of three mailed dwarves who report safe travels. A courier passes the group.

Day 44/Wed/To Onodrith

-The group is attacked by bandits, all five of whom are killed promptly. One of the men protests that the group is “not long for this world.” The group is shaken by the comment.

Day 45/Thur/To Onodrith

-A bad day for Lieutenant Dalion. The rash lieutenant rode like a demon after the group once he discovered that his privacy had been violated…right into an ambush. Dalion and his six equestrian soldier companions are outsmarted by the group; Prebhen threw a greek fire barrage on the passing men and the combat deteriorated from there. Dalion and three of the troops are killed. Three more are driven off, one of which expires later that day.

Day 46/Fri/To Onodrith

-Group reaches the Entwash and the bridge town at midday. A few cheery hobbits happen by and entertain the group. The group camps at riverside, finally feeling a bit more secure about their position, as they are near a city again and at least one foe has been vanquished.

Day 47/Sat/Onodrith

-The group reaches Onodrith by mid-morning. The group slinks into the city as unobtrusively as possible, and the charming Aldorn asks around about the members of the guard. Supposedly, the Governor Maendir is an honorable and upstanding citizen and devoted to the rule of law. They set up a meeting with him via the Constabulary. The group meets a charming entertainer and his young daughter at the Red Hawk’s Inn.

Notes: Nethlas, the current Governor of Dunlostir, meets at this time with other shady members of the slaver syndicate. He reasons that the pc group doesn’t pose any further threat at the moment, and that, with Dalion’s death, most danger to the operation has been resolved. Brinel Gildano, another member, says that the group can be taken care of at some future date if necessary.

Week 8: A Proposition

Day 48/Sun/Onodrith

-The group meets with the Governor of Onodrith, Maendir. They give a copy of the sinister log and notes to him. He officially acquits the group of any wrongdoing for the killings of corrupt watchmen. But he also cautions the group that the conspiracy that was uncovered is only the tip of the iceberg and that the group has made a powerful enemy in the Steel Ring.

Day 49/Mon/Onodrith

-Decided to stay in town to rest for a few days. They hear of a sinister outpost toward the Emyn Muil called Bleakmere, which was evidently a fortress built in the early days of Gondor, and abandoned after the first Easterling War. Chatted with numerous folks at the Inn.

Day 50/Tue/Onodrith

-The group is directed by the owner of the Red Hawk’s Inn to speak with Garulf, an Ehwathrumi mercenary. He claims that working for Gondor’s government is profitable work and much in demand, especially in Dor Rhunen. He says that there is a shortage of espionage units and that it is dangerous but rewarding work. The group decides to rest a couple more days and then check it out.

Day 51/Wed/Onodrith

-After a quiet day, the group encounters a drunken northerner harassing a young woman. Aldorn tells the man to piss off and a short scuffle ensues, ending with the innkeeper throwing the rude drunk out of the Inn. The man, Duric, says he will see the group again. Aldorn endears himself to the patrons, gets friendly with the woman Coerwen whom he helped.

Day 52/Thurs/Onodrith

-Uneventful day with shopping. Andrahil and Fealoke chat with Maendir again, this time about work. The Governor says he could probably arrange for the group to gain clearance to Dor Rhunen to speak to the regent Vagaig. During the day, a solitary tough (Luhan) ambushes Aldorn and he is beaten up and injured. Gavrad and Amyas are able to get him back to health without too much trouble.

Day 53/Fri/Onodrith

-The group spends some time outfitting for the journey. Amyas buys a blade of adarcer (silvery steel alloy) and a suit of full steel plate to replace his iron mail. In the evening at the tavern, Andrahil talks to a proud and romantic Corsair named Hiresgil, who is a sellsword and hopes to find work to the south. A traveling bard tells a tale of giants and impractical crusaders.

Day 54/Sat/To Dor Rhunen

-

Aftermath of Campaign I

-With the Gem of Blackflame safely delivered to Master Elrond, the group disbands.

-Andrahil weds Naurwen (the fire maiden) and lives for a time at his manor

-Baldor and Bairaglath continue to scour the landscape

-Aldorn, after his deathly experience, decides to move on to Fornost for a while

-Gavrad and Liire make an unlikely couple and move to rural Cardolan

-Fealoke the Dark accompanies the Noldo Laurilea to the Grey Havens (who intends to go to Aman) with the Gem.

-Alaza and Azruzor set up a guild known as Blackflame

-Prebhen stays in Imladris for a few years

Novi Timeline and Alterations

Almareni – Aryan (Tyrai – Italic; Nordeskai – Germanic; Westerendi – Celtic; Vendikai – Slavic)

Almoran-Frigani – Finno-Ugric

Hulean – Turkic

Etengari/Khar Zin – Mongol

Jennite – Tungus

Khar – Chinese

Mintaki – Japanese

Mornikai – Korean

Sakari – Afro-Asiatic

Kehji-Kharlakan – Sino-Tibetan

Elves

-Grey elf ‘homelands’ are agreed in the north in Wendar. Cape and isle elves.

-Wood elf ‘homelands’ are agreed in the old kingdoms. Woodland elves.

Alts

-Sakar is not attached to Almir but is a small continent of its own (1.5 mil sq. mi.)

-Almaren + Almora + Zoria = 9.4 million sq. mi.

-Western Empire is three main isles (two in far west, one in the nw and one in the cw; one to the south of Almaren), 2 Almareni colonies, and several Zulian colonies.

-Turk-style kingdom of Harasmia exists thanks to the migrations of these folk from the east. Same is true for the Hulean Sultanate near Thyatis. Migrations of these folk did not wipe out the native Almoran steppe culture.

-Almaren’s Novani population is mostly Aryan. In the south and east there are exceptions.

-Kings of Aryan nations are racially identical to Dunedain thanks to their relatively recent infusions of Savi, Exali, and even Demigod blood, often times Dukes as well. Other nobility are equivalent to Lesser Dunedain.

-Tyrans had ores including steel. Today among the Novani only the Aryans and Mintakans know how to manufacture steel, laen, ithilnaur, adamantine, and eog (the last four are usually strictly kept among royal smithworks).

Timeline

-SA 1 calendar is begun when Tyrius and Torion, two Aryan aristocrats, organize the people of the Cainia river basin into the Commonwealth of Tyr. The city of Tyr is born this year.

-SA 500, first imperial Tyran campaigns to other lands.

-SA 1214, final destruction of Lethaan, the chief rival empire to Tyr, is achieved.

-SA 1452 sees the crowning of Severinus as Emperor of Tyr, the first official Emperor.

-SA 2458 strange reactionary Eldani conspiracy based on ideology of elves regaining world power topples the now corrupt and decadent and downbred Tyran Empire and founds the Pentarchy.

-SA 3510 sees the beginning of the War of the Magi, initiated by various Aryan tribes allied with elves, dwarves, and even some orcish tribes. The war lasts 14 grueling years and results in the utter destruction of the Pentarchy at the hands of the Free Alliance.

-TA 1 is founded when Free Alliance negotiates the Grand Western Treaty. This is in the wake of the Grand War of the Magi which signaled the final defeat of the Pentarchy tyranny which had ruled the West from SA 2400 to 3550. The kingdoms of Lancia and others are founded (these are precursors to the modern kingdoms but often with different names).

-TA 648 sees the coronation of Tescelin (b. 532), the Emperor of the West. He conquers most of western Almaren with the exception of the Allonian valley, the Sakari-held lands in the southwest and the southern part of the Tyran peninsula. He stops his expansion at the borderlands of the majority Vendik lands. He dies in TA 676, signifying a time of troubles ahead.

-TA 824 sees the division of the Empire of Tescelin.

-TA 1022 sees the election of Berenger I of Carnot, the first of the Carnot dynasty of Limellia.

-TA 1446: Present day. Kings: Ademar of Allon, Lothair of Limellia, Romelion of Veredune, Eligion of Orelin, Arnulfes of Adhelon, Conrades of Ilion, Erdinandes of Casparan, Sigeric of Graeschild, Lammert of Jannerau

My people

-Lodmund (6’4”, 240 lbs, blond hair, grey eyes), a N-Nordeskai from Marklund (pop. 1,220) in the Kingdom of Vannia. He is a fearsome mercenary warrior whose travels bring him to the city of Siriuse, second most important in Paragon.

-Walter (6’1”, 195, brown hair, blue-grey eyes), a W-Nordeskai from Esseth (pop. 8,130) in the Kingdom of Allon. His father is Count of Esseth but he does not hope to inherit any land since he is the fourth son. Instead he moves to Alvaron to seek his fortune.

-Edda (5’7”, 135 lbs, blond hair, green eyes), a W-Nordeskai from Brynnport (pop. 2,650) in the Kingdom of Allon. Her father is Marcus Brynn, the alcoholic and volatile Baron of Brynnshire. Her mother was a shrewd peasant woman named Osyth who Marcus originally tried to wed, but thanks to his ill temper she left with a large sum of gold from the treasury on their wedding night. She relocated to Alvaron with her daughter and paid to get her into the civil service of Alvaron. Edda’s trade is agent. She has a half-sister, Elodia, as her mother’s new husband is Leon, a successful merchant.

-Rianna, a Peredhil (Westerendi/Hydri) from Keirsdam Castle (pop. 500) in Orleach (a colony of the Western Empire in Almaren)

novite states continued

Novite States, AR 999 (TA 3308)
-Almareni reckoning was founded in the years when the Free Alliance defeated the last members of the Pentarchy in the War of the Magi. That war ended 999 years ago and it’s completion heralded the supremacy of the new Nordeskai culture and the rise of the modern Almaren. The great kings who participated in the War of the Magi inherited the lands they had won. It has been 532 years since the founding of the Empire of Tescelin (which in turn became the current states of Eusdria and Mormelar) and the beginning of a new Almareni civilization.

-The Tyran Empire became the mightiest state in the world during the early years of the Third Age. But around TA 1000 they began to wane as hordes of Amazo-Sakari peoples colonized the heart of the empire and it became a decadent plutocracy. Many of the Aryan Tyrans moved to the northwest or across the sea to escape the corruption and growing danger (these people added to the other Aryan population that already had existed in Cylonuvia since the Elder Days). The Tyrans who settled in present day Allon founded the realm of Laugris and those who settled across the sea founded the Second-Wave Aryan realms of Annuvia that exist to this day. In TA 1296 Ambarlach of Aquilonia overthrew the near-defunct Empire and his armies destroyed Tyr (though the modern city of Cyrisa is founded on it’s ruins). Soon after, concurrent Koreldani plots toppled the other lands of Almir and the Pentarchy was declared. Many tumults occurred throughout the reign of the Pentarchy including the forcible relocation or even extermination of populations of Novani and others who did not consent to the Pentarchy’s dominance. The Pentarchs declared themselves Gods and demanded worship and tribute. Few lands held out against their might until the Free Alliance was organized by a coalition of the diverse peoples of Almaren (a unity of men, elves, dwarves, and hin). The challenge to the Pentarchy’s might resulted in the War of the Magi which devastated the continent. The upside of the War, which ended lasted ten years and ended in the spring of 2309, was that the Pentarchy had been toppled by the Free Alliance and other peoples of Almir. Out of the Free Alliance sprang the new Nordeskai Kingdoms. The Nordeskai were a people who occupied the northern lands during the Tyran Empire. During the Pentarchy many of their tribes caused trouble and were known as agitated and dangerous. After the fall of the Pentarchy it was discovered that the Nordeskai were now the most numerous group of Aryans that remained in western Almaren. The tribes founded kingdoms that became the basis for the current feudal states of western Almaren. The other groups of Aryans that had lived in the lands (Tratians, remnant Tyrans and Westerendi) mostly assimilated to the new Nordeskai culture and were absorbed. The realms of Eusdria, Allon, Mormelar, Limellia and Old Tyr and the smaller Novani principalities arose from this. Of the Eldani realms, the only large ones that remain are Beretaur in the north of Almaren and Taur Pelanna and Taurangel in the west central area known as the Old Kingdoms. For Omikhani realms, there is Grindenwald in the northwest and Kenax and Ulvarin in the Old Kingdoms. The Milenian Empire was founded in the east in the spirit of the Tyrans, spurred on by a migration of three tribes to the area (two Tyran, one Nordeskai).

Western Isles
Western Empire
Type: Empire, ruled by a strong High King. There are also 9 kingdoms total plus other colonial holdings.
Capital: Sunvale (pop. 120,000)

Western Almaren

Kingdom of Allon

King: Ademar I (House of Angelon). He is known for fair justice and sound administration but is ill-humored and intolerant of opposition. Some citizens feel he overtaxes as well.
Capital: Londell (pop. 125,000)
Population: 27,800,000. Part of this owes to the very fertile western Eusdrian Duchies which are controlled by the King of Allon.

Kingdom of Eusdria

Capital: Othmar (pop. 78,000)
Total indigenous population: 23,700,000. This owes to the large heartland of arable land.

Duchy of Calamar
Type: Feudal magiocracy. Only mages are allowed to rule in this realm and this decree has the consent of the Mormelari Emperor.
Duke: Reimar I (van Vlaardoen), disposition: reclusive. He is a strange and reclusive fellow but is known to be married and with children. He spends much of his time in contemplation of magic.

Population: 2,250,000.

Duchy of Seremon
Type: Oligarchy. Mages and merchants compete for power in this chaotic northern realm.
Duke: Gervase III (Aellebold), disposition: cautious. He answers to the Guild Consortium’s board but has considerable wealth and influence of his own. Gervase is conservative for the most part and goes along with the mercantile establishment for the most part. He is a trained and capable military leader however.
Capital: Vinburg (pop. 24,000)
Population: 2,500,000.

Four Kingdoms of Limellia
Type: Alliance of four feudal monarchies. They are influenced by lobbies of mages and peasant herders.
Kings: Erdinande V, Conrade II, Eligion IV, Romelion I.
Capital: Mellongael (pop. 50,000) is the largest city and is Erdinande’s capital city.
Population: 15,200,000.

Forest See of Beretaur
Type: Religious bureaucracy, each district ruled by a high priest. There is an archpriest who governs the entire structure. It is the only large Eldani state in northern Almaren, save Wendar in the northeast.
Archpriest: Hallon. Hallon’s leadership has been trusted for 436 years since his predecessor was slain during the Lajakan Orcish Crisis. He is always clear-headed and dispassionate in his dealings.
Capital: Berenost (pop. 12,000). This is a citadel with several levels set in sparsely populated wood and lake land (like most of the other settlements).
Population: 3,800,000.

Kingdom of Grindenwald
Type: Monarchy, with strong religious overtones among the royalty. It borders Allon to the west.
King: Storlock.
Capital: Grindenhold (pop. 87,000). Part of this city skirts a cliffside and there is an exclusively Omikhani district carved into the mountainside. This has been a Dwarf Mansion since the Elder Days.
Population: 8,100,000. 51.2% Omikhani, 44.5% Novani, 4.2% Onovani, .1% Gnomes.

The Old Kingdoms
Type: 4 independent realms. Taur Pelanna and Taurangel are Eldani homelands and Ulvarin and Kenax are Omikhani homelands. They have been occupied by their respective peoples since the Elder Wars (which decimated most of the once dominant Eldani and Omikhani civilizations of Almaren). The dwarf lands are kingdoms whereas the elvish realms are ruled by clerics.

Empire of Mormelar
Type: Decentralized feudal empire. Economically it acts as an empire but it is comprised of many smaller and often nearly autonomous territories. All together it is larger than Allon, a large kingdom in itself, although it’s heartland is in the Land of the Nordeskai.
Emperor: Contested. The two contestants are Sigeric of House Scilder (hm knight-6 ln – possessions-Rehburg) and the sixth son of the previous Emperor, Lammert of House Holvanner (hm knight-6 lg). Sigeric (and his allies including Archpriest Beringaer of Koeren) began the war with an aggressive assault from the north but was unable to defeat Lammert’s forces. Last year, Lammert took the fight into Sigeric’s territories but has not won any decisive engagements yet. The Patriarch has not declared who he supports to be the Mormelari Emperor, which complicates matters somewhat.
Terrain: Diverse, but generally flat plains and occasional forests in the north turning into mountains with some thick forest in the south. The border with the Holy States is past the Tyran spires, but the empire does not control the city-states of Alvaron, Almadil, or Margand.
Capital: Vallenburg (so named for it’s situation upon a seething river – pop. 14,000) is the feudal capital of the Royal Family (Holvanner). There are several regional cities of grand importance. Elarven might be a prospective county seat.
Population: 47,800,000.

Nordia
Kingdom of Gyrea
King: Frösten II
Population: 1,570,000
The People: Above anything, the Northmen honour bravery and scorn the weak. As with Steilunders, they believe that using words is cowardly and dishonourable. They fear nothing, not even the darkness of eternal death, and march off to battle foes even when hopelessly outnumbered. To a northman, death in battle is the only method of finding happiness in the afterlife. Thor is the ideal example of their lives, and he is almost universally worshipped throughout the nation.
Northmen from Gyrea are very closely tied to their clan and sadly view all others, including (if not especially) other northmen, as rivals. This has to do with generations of fighting between the clans - the blood spilled during those battles has yet to be forgiven. But such feuds have been decreasing. The new King of Gyrea has forbidden the most bloody of the clan wars under pains of death. He allows skirmishes and raiding (in fact encouraging it), but draws the line when outright massacre is involved.
Although just as fierce as their brothers of Steilund, the individualistic northmen of Gyrea care little for one another unless they are direct kinsmen. During a battle against a common enemy, they will not watch out for each other, a fact that caused many deaths in the recent wars. This callousness mostly relates to the history of blood feuds in Gyrea.
Although I have mentioned that the Northmen do not fear anything, this is actually untrue. There is one thing they fear in this world: wizardly magic. To them, it is powers granted by Hel herself, and mages are reviled as stealers of souls and fiends incarnate. If in battle with northmen, by casting a simple magic spell, you might manage to cause all your enemies to flee, or, should your luck turn bad, cause them all to try twice as hard to slay the foolish mage.
Kingdom of Vannia
Type: Feudal monarchy.
King: Njord VI
Population: 2,340,000
Vannia is a land torn between tradition and improvement. The northmen of Vannia do not wish to give up their old ways, but they also wish to become modern and civilised like the other nations of the Old World. So far, they are advancing slowly along the road of modernisation.
They have schools that teach the former warriors how to read and write, and capital city Ostvik even boasts having the only magic college of the entire Northlands [they study the magical runes taught to them by Odin and his priests. Ed.]. This means that they are slightly less fearful of magic than the other northmen.
Of the old traditions, only the worship of the Northman Pantheon remains; all other customs, notably piracy, have slowly disappeared. Unlike Gyrea and Steilund, Odin and Thor are not the favoured Gods [once more, a reminder that God is simply their term for Immortal. Ed.] of the people. Instead, they revere Frey and Freyja first and foremost, with Odin and Thor only worshipped by the nobles. The church of Forsetta, a key Immortal in Vannian religion, is also popular as their priests have played a vital role in the selection of the High Kings of Vannia since the days of Ottar the Just.
The Vannians try to be polite and scholarly, although they are not always successful. It is not surprising to see a man break into a rage and start pummelling the person he was arguing, then stop just as suddenly and ask for forgiveness when his rage is better under control.
Kingdom of Steilund
Type: Feudal monarchy.
King: Brindolf I
Population: 3,820,000.
Above anything, the Northmen honour bravery and scorn the weak. The civilised way of words used by the Thyatians and Minrothaddans who visit their nation is dishonourable in their point of view. They fear nothing, not even the darkness of eternal death, and march off to battle foes even when hopelessly outnumbered. To a northman, death in battle is the only method of finding happiness in the afterlife.
Steilunders give praise to their divine Gods [the "Gods" of the Northern Reaches are merely Immortals. The northerners simply call them Gods, much like the hin call their Immortals "Heroes" after the title they received when they were mortal. Ed.], just as any respectful people should. They maintain their ancient traditions and customs, despite many pressures from foreign powers to change. This is what I admire about them, having felt similar feelings of dishonouring Halav back home with the blending of Traladaran and Thyatian cultures. The reverence for Odin and Thor runs deep in their blood, and never will they accept any insults to their beliefs.
Yet they are quick to anger at any insult upon them, not just those toward their Gods. Battles to the death over a perceived wrong is commonplace here, and to be called a coward afraid to fight is the worse insult imaginable to them. And they do not forgive as easily as you or I; an enemy made is often for life.
Of the three Northern Reaches nations, Steilund is still practising pirating and raiding of foreign nations. And they do not deny it when accused either. They view such raids as tests of manhood, and that only the weak whine about their fate. To most, such plundering is violent and brutal, but to the Steilunders, it is a way of life.

King: Alvian I
-History: Megarans are of similar origins to Karjalans – they are Aryans perhaps from the Great Central Range. They were originally warrior nomad/farmers but they became settled in AR 800 (TA 3100-ish) by the decree of the Patriarch after they agreed to follow the Pantheon’s teachings. The heartlands of this realm are broad plains.

Note: This empire is mostly founded around the city of Thyatis, a gigantic city that sits astride Almaren and Sakar. Other notable cities are Kerendas and Hattias. This land was founded after the War of the Magi by three tribes of Aryans. It’s empire once stretched across Sakar and even north Amazulia as well as across Milenia Occidental.
Capital: Thyatis (pop. 500,000). This is the largest city in Almaren and has been occupied for 4500+ years since it was founded by Traldar in the Second Age.
